Conjunctive Visual and Auditory Development via Real-Time Dialogue

Human developmental learning is capable of dealing with the dynamic visual world, speech-based dialogue, and their complex real-time association. However, the architecture that realizes this for robotic cognitive development has not been reported in the past. This paper takes up this challenge. The proposed architecture does not require a strict coupling between visual and auditory stimuli. Two major operations contribute to the “abstraction” process: multiscale temporal priming and high-dimensional numeric abstraction through internal responses with reduced variance. As a basic principle of developmental learning, the programmer does not know the nature of the world events at the time of programming and, thus, hand-designed task-specific representation is not possible. We successfully tested the architecture on the SAIL robot under an unprecedented challenging multimodal interaction mode: use real-time speech dialogue as a teaching source for simultaneous and incremental visual learning and language acquisition, while the robot is viewing a dynamic world that contains a rotating object to which the dialogue is referring

Developmental Robots - A New Paradigm

It has been proved to be extremely challenging for humans to program a robot to such a sufficient degree that it acts properly in a typical unknown human environment. This is especially true for a humanoid robot due to the very large number of redundant degrees of freedom and a large number of sensors that are required for a humanoid to work safely and effectively in the human environment. How can we address this fundamental problem? Motivated by human mental development from infancy to adulthood, we present a theory, an architecture, and some experimental results showing how to enable a robot to develop its mind automatically, through online, real time interactions with its environment. Humans mentally “raise” the robot through “robot sitting” and “robot schools” instead of task-specific robot programming

The System Shaping and Standard Path of Easement Rights in Civil Property Code

    Get PDF
Easement Rights is a right designed to promote the use efficiency of Real Properties, but the meaning of land in different legal systems is not fully considered in Property Law of the People’s Republic of China when it follows the Easement Rights system. Therefore, the adjustment scope of Easement Rights system in China is controversial. It is necessary to clarify this before the promulgation of the Easement Rights in Civil Property Code that is being compiled. In order to achieve the above goal, we can draw the following conclusions. First of all, we should change Easement Rights to Real Estate Easements while taking into account the factors such as the legal system of China and the flexibility for social changes, so as to solve the contradiction between the meaning and the system of the object of Easement Rights adjustment. Secondly, it insists that Easement Rights is the right to use the easement directly and specifically, and establishes that the scope of adjustment should not include Real Estate Rights. Moreover, it is necessary to expressly allow the usufructuary to set up easement and increase its own easement, so as to leave room for the easement to play under the current land system of China. Starting from the spirit of regulating civil relations in Property Law, Easement Rights is set up to promote the utilization efficiency of Real Estate, and it is concluded that in the future Property Right system, the Easement Rights system should not only be used for the sake of public interest, but also be used to adjust the situation of no easement

Turning Unstructured and Incoherent Group Discussion into DATree: A TBL Coherence Analysis Approach

    Get PDF
Despite the rapid growth of user-generated unstructured text from online group discussions, business decision-makers are facing the challenge of understanding its highly incoherent content. Coherence analysis attempts to reconstruct the order of discussion messages. However, existing methods only focus on system and cohesion features. While they work with asynchronous discussions, they fail with synchronous discussions because these features rarely appear. We believe that discussion logic features play an important role in coherence analysis. Therefore, we propose a TCA method for coherence analysis, which is composed of a novel message similarity measure algorithm, a subtopic segmentation algorithm and a TBL-based classification algorithm. System, cohesion and discussion logic features are all incorporated into our TCA method. Results from experiments showed that the TCA method achieved significantly better performance than existing methods. Furthermore, we illustrate that the DATree generated by the TCA method can enhance decision-makers’ content analysis capability

Coordination of UFLS and UFGC by Application of D-SMES

    Get PDF
In this paper, the authors studied the coordination of under frequency load shedding (UFLS) and under frequency governor control (UFGC) by applying the distributed superconducting magnetic energy storage (D-SMES) devices. The active power of D-SMES device is controlled to eliminate the initial rapid frequency drop and allow time for the full action of UFGC to take over. The reactive power of D-SMES is controlled to stabilise the local bus voltage. The research results show that D-SMES devices can damp the quick dropping of system frequency and hold it waiting for the full activation of system spinning reserve. D-SMES can help the governors output their maximum reserve before UFLS drops more load

EAF Voltage Flicker Mitigation by FACTS/ESS

    Get PDF
One of the problems caused by an electrical arc furnace (EAF) is voltage fluctuation from the variations of the active and reactive furnace load, which are known as voltage flickers. In this paper, voltage flicker mitigation results by different FACTS and energy storage systems (ESS) were presented. The system X/R ratio looking from the point of common coupling, which has a special impact on the effectiveness of active compensation, was discussed. The study has clarified the misunderstanding of how the system X/R ratio should be calculated. The study showed that FACTS with ESS could play a better role than reactive power alone in mitigating EAF voltage flickers

A Comparison of the Dynamic Performance of FACTS with Energy Storage to a Unified Power Flow Controller

    Get PDF
The integration of an energy storage system into FACTS devices may lead to a more economical and/or flexible transmission controller. Various energy storage systems have received considerable attention in power utility applications due to their characteristics that range from rapid response, high power, high efficiency, and four-quadrant control. The enhanced performance of combined FACTS/ESS may have greater appeal to transmission service providers. Integrating an energy storage system into a FACTS device can provide dynamic decentralized active power capabilities and much needed flexibility for mitigating transmission level power flow problems. This paper presents a comprehensive comparison between the dynamic performances of a StatCom, a StatComBESS, an SSSC, an SSSC/ESS and a UPFC

Single cell and bulk transcriptome analysis identified oxidative stress response-related features of Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Background: Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) is a common lethal digestive system tumor. The oxidative stress mechanism is crucial in the HCC genesis and progression. Methods: Our study analyzed single-cell and bulk sequencing data to compare the microenvironment of non-tumor liver tissues and HCC tissues. Through these analyses, we aimed to investigate the effect of oxidative stress on cells in the HCC microenvironment and identify critical oxidative stress response-related genes that impact the survival of HCC patients. Results: Our results showed increased oxidative stress in HCC tissue compared to non-tumor tissue. Immune cells in the HCC microenvironment exhibited higher oxidative detoxification capacity, and oxidative stress-induced cell death of dendritic cells was attenuated. HCC cells demonstrated enhanced communication with immune cells through the MIF pathway in a highly oxidative hepatoma microenvironment. Meanwhile, using machine learning and Cox regression screening, we identified PRDX1 as a predictor of early occurrence and prognosis in patients with HCC. The expression level of PRDX1 in HCC was related to dysregulated ribosome biogenesis and positively correlated with the expression of immunological checkpoints (PDCD1LG2, CTLA4, TIGIT, LAIR1). High PRDX1 expression in HCC patients correlated with better sensitivity to immunotherapy agents such as sorafenib, IGF-1R inhibitor, and JAK inhibitor. Conclusion: In conclusion, our study unveiled variations in oxidative stress levels between non-tumor liver and HCC tissues. And we identified oxidative stress gene markers associated with hepatocarcinogenesis development, offering novel insights into the oxidative stress response mechanism in HCC
